This year we are celebrating Juneteenth with a Green Book Dinner at The Roosevelt.

The Green Book was published and distributed throughout the 1930s into the 1960s and provided African-American travelers with a list of safe places to stop, eat and rest during the Jim Crow era.

This dinner is four courses, inspired by three of Richmond's Green Book sites. To celebrate with us all you have to do is make a regular reservation through Resy for June 18th or 19th! We will be offering this special meal alongside our regular service.

The Green Book Dinner option will be 60$ (tax and gratuity not included). Curated wine and drink pairings will be available.

Skinney's BBQ

Located at Fairmount Avenue and 25th Street, Skinney's BBQ was eventually demolished and is now the site of a grocery store.

Perry's

Located at 519 North 2nd Street, Perry's was connected to a store (with both featuring "Pilast'd" walls). The restaurant was known for its Thanksgiving-style turkey, chops and seafood. Operated by Spencer and Barbara Perry beginning in 1960, Perry's was a Richmond staple for decades. The Perrys were deeply involved in Richmond Crusade for Voters, and their son, Spencer Jr, was instrumental in the desegregation of what is now Barack Obama Elementary School.

Miller's & Eggleston Hotel

Established around 1904, this three-story building was located at 2nd and Leigh streets. William and Arling Miller. The money to open the hotel came after William gained  notoriety after knocking out famed boxer John L. Sullivan in 1899 after Sullivan threatened to kill him while at work at Murphy's Hotel.

In 1942 Neverett and Sallie Eggleston purchased the hotel and restaurant from the Millers, renaming the combo the Eggleston Hotel and Neverett's Place. The Egglestons were prominent community figures, with Neverett serving as president of the Richmond Democratic League for some time. The hotel hosted many celebrities (such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Count Basie), and boasted air conditioned rooms, parking, and 24-hour dining.
